12 Islamic countries, including Pakistan, have expressed strong opposition to Israel’s announcement of appointing a diplomatic representative to the so-called “Somaliland”.
In a joint statement, the move was described as a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and was strongly condemned.
The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye, Indonesia and Palestine issued the communiqué, with counterparts from Bangladesh, Kuwait, Algeria, Sudan, Libya and Somalia also included.
The statement reaffirmed full support for the unity and integrity of Somalia. It stated that Israel’s action runs contrary to the Charter of the United Nations and established international law.
According to the joint declaration, the right to represent the Somali people rests solely with the country’s recognised state institutions.
The foreign ministers said that such interference by Israel sets a dangerous precedent for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
