The government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs24.74 per litre, taking it to Rs116.08 per litre, according to sources in the Petroleum Ministry.
At the same time, the petroleum levy on diesel has been reduced, while kerosene oil has also been made more expensive.
According to sources, the petroleum levy on petrol has been raised from Rs91.34 per litre to Rs116.08 per litre. The increase amounts to Rs24.74 per litre.
The development means consumers will now face a higher levy component in the price of petrol.
Diesel levy reduced
While the levy on petrol has been increased, the government has reduced the petroleum levy on diesel. Sources said the levy on diesel has been cut by Rs24.34 per litre.
After the reduction, the petroleum levy on diesel has come down from Rs68.93 per litre to Rs44.59 per litre.
Kerosene oil becomes more expensive
Kerosene oil has also been made costlier by Rs8.70 per litre. After the increase, the new price of kerosene oil has reached Rs280.70 per litre.
According to the report, the previous price of kerosene oil was Rs200 per litre.
Sources said the petroleum levy on kerosene oil has been maintained at Rs20.36 per litre. Despite no change in the levy, the price of kerosene has increased by Rs8.70 per litre.
The latest changes show a major adjustment in the levy structure, with petrol becoming subject to a higher levy, diesel receiving relief, and kerosene oil prices moving upward.
