The election campaign for the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections has ended, with polling scheduled to take place tomorrow, June 7, across 24 constituencies.
A total of 958,480 voters will exercise their right to vote, while election material and polling staff are being dispatched to polling stations today.
The Gilgit-Baltistan general elections 2026 will be held on Sunday, June 7. Polling will begin at 8am and continue until 5pm without interruption.
The election campaign ended at midnight last night, after which candidates are no longer allowed to hold public meetings, processions, rallies or corner meetings.
Nearly one million voters to cast ballots
According to election details, 958,480 registered voters will cast their votes in 24 constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan.
A total of 396 candidates were initially contesting the elections, though several independent candidates have withdrawn in favour of different political parties in various constituencies.
Party candidates include 23 from the PPP, 22 from the PML-N, 15 from PTI and 9 from JUI-F.
Polling stations and booths
More than 1,400 polling stations and 2,447 polling booths will be set up for the elections. According to the Election Commission, a total of 1,391 polling stations have been established across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Of these, 551 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive.

The Election Commission said 154 polling stations in Gilgit and 119 polling stations in Diamer have been declared highly sensitive. In Gilgit, 349 polling stations across 10 districts have been declared sensitive.
Security arrangements completed
Strict security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful elections across Gilgit-Baltistan. A total of 14,500 personnel, including police, will be deployed on election duty in different constituencies.
Of these, 4,000 personnel will be from Gilgit-Baltistan, while the remaining security staff will come from the federal government.
With less than 24 hours left before polling, election material is being distributed in different constituencies today. The Election Commission has handed over responsibilities to election staff.
Polling staff, along with ballot boxes and other election equipment, are heading toward their assigned polling stations.
Polling arrangements in Diamer
The polling schedule for the GBA elections has been finalized in Diamer district.
In GBA-15 Diamer, 49 polling stations have been set up for 44,526 voters. Of these, 13 polling stations are for male voters, 13 for female voters and 23 are combined polling stations where both men and women will cast votes.
The number of polling booths in the constituency has been fixed at 109. In GBA-16 Diamer, 59 polling stations have been established for 46,282 voters.
There will be 28 male polling stations, 27 female polling stations and 4 combined polling stations. The number of polling booths in GBA-16 has been set at 133.

In GBA-17 Diamer, 50 polling stations have been set up for 41,045 voters. There will be 25 polling stations for male voters and 25 polling stations for female voters. The constituency will have 118 polling booths.
In GBA-18 Diamer, 26 polling stations have been established for 26,861 voters. There will be 13 male polling stations and 13 female polling stations. The number of polling booths in the constituency has been set at 41.
Polling arrangements in Skardu
Polling material will also be distributed today in the four constituencies of Skardu. A total of 124 polling stations have been set up across the four Skardu constituencies.
In GBA-7 Skardu-1, 31 polling stations have been established. In GBA-8 Skardu-2, 29 polling stations have been set up. In GBA-9 Skardu-3, 30 polling stations have been established. In GBA-10 Skardu-4, 34 polling stations have been set up.
According to officials, final election arrangements are underway, while delivery of polling material in Skardu will begin after 2pm.
Final preparations under way
Election authorities say all arrangements are being finalized to conduct polling peacefully and smoothly.
With campaigning now over, attention has shifted to the distribution of election material, deployment of polling staff and security arrangements across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Voters in all 24 constituencies will decide the region’s next political direction when polling begins tomorrow morning.
