The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has achieved another significant milestone at the international level.
The Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology in Lahore has been designated as a ‘Collaborating Centre’ by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A ceremony was held at INMOL to present the plaque of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Collaborating Centre. Addressing the gathering, Member Science Dr Shakeel Abbas Rofi said that with this distinction, five institutions in Pakistan have now become Collaborating Centres of the global agency. He noted that Pakistan’s ranking at fourth place among ninety-two centres across forty-five countries is a matter of pride.
During the ceremony, a modern ‘TrueBeam LINAC’ machine, valued at approximately Rs1.4 billion, was also inaugurated. The establishment of a new chemotherapy bay has increased patient capacity from twenty to fifty.
Director INMOL Dr Amira Shami and DG Dr Shazia Fatima said the achievement reflects improvements in the institution’s research and medical standards. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission operated 21 cancer hospitals across the country, where eighty per cent of patients are provided with advanced treatment facilities.
