Amid the prevailing energy crisis, Pakistan has received significant relief with a major oil and gas discovery in Kohat.
The discovery has been made at the Baragzai X-01 in the Nashpa Block. According to OGDCL spokesperson, the well is producing 15,005 barrels of oil per day along with 45.36 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
A target has been set to increase oil production to 25,000 barrels per day and gas output to 60 million standard cubic feet per day by 2028, while liquefied petroleum gas production is to be raised to 200 metric tonnes per day.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said the discovery would help ease the energy crisis. He added that OGDCL’s continued successes marked important milestones for the country’s energy security.
These discoveries are expected to yield an annual benefit of approximately $329 million for Pakistan, while also increasing domestic reserves and reducing reliance on imported fuel.
