Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is set to file a revised apology affidavit in the Karnataka High Court over his remarks linked to the Kantara controversy.
The development came during a hearing in Bengaluru, where the court reviewed his earlier submission and sought clarity.
The matter was heard before Justice M. Nagaprasanna in the Karnataka High Court on Friday. The court examined an affidavit submitted by Ranveer Singh expressing regret over his comments related to Chamundi Devi, referenced in the Kantara discussion.
According to Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, who represented the actor, Singh had already expressed remorse in his affidavit. However, he also conveyed readiness to submit a revised version if the court required further clarification.
Actor’s clarification and apology
As per the affidavit, Ranveer Singh stated that he did not realize his words could hurt the sentiments of devotees at the time of the incident. He added that he respects all faiths and traditions.
The actor’s counsel informed the court that Singh had offered his “most profound remorse” and complete apology through his statement. It was also mentioned that he intended to visit the temple of the deity and perform related religious duties.
Background shared in court
During the proceedings, Singh’s counsel also referred to his background, stating that he grew up in a Sindhi family in Mumbai. He reportedly acknowledged that he was unaware of certain cultural sensitivities connected to the issue.
The argument was presented to explain the context behind his remarks and the misunderstanding that followed.
The complainant, Prashanth Methal, argued before the court that the affidavit did not reflect authentic remorse. He maintained that the apology appeared insufficient given the seriousness of the issue.
Methal also noted that filmmaker and actor Rishab Shetty had earlier warned Ranveer Singh against making such statements, adding another layer to the dispute.
