The petrol price surge has pushed weekly inflation up by two per cent, according to official figures.
According to details surfaced on Friday, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported that annual inflation has reached 12.15 per cent, entering double digits once again. A total of 28 essential commodities recorded an increase in prices during the past week.
Tomatoes rose by 9.35 per cent, while potatoes increased by 4.13 per cent. Onions became costlier by 3.84 per cent and eggs by 3.77 per cent over the week.
Beef, mutton and bread were also included among the items witnessing higher prices. Diesel prices increased by 54.71 per cent over the week.
Petrol recorded a weekly rise of 18 per cent, data showed. LPG prices went up by 8.61 per cent during the same period.
On an annual basis, onion prices increased by 38 per cent. Wheat flour became costlier by over 30 per cent over the year.
Chillies rose by 15.20 per cent, while mutton increased by 15 per cent and beef by 14 per cent. Milk powder recorded a yearly increase of 10.23 per cent. Diesel prices surged by more than 101 per cent on an annual basis.
LPG increased by 66 per cent year-on-year, according to official data. Petrol prices rose by 49 per cent compared with last year.
Gas charges also increased by up to 30 per cent over the year.
