The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase in electricity prices by Rs 1.42 per unit, citing monthly fuel adjustment for February.
The hike will impact K-Electric and all distribution companies (discos) consumers and will be reflected in April electricity bills.
Nepra approves electricity price hike
Nepra issued the notification following a request from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to raise prices by Rs 1.62 per unit.
- After reviewing CPPA’s request, Nepra decided on a slightly lower increase of Rs 1.42 per unit.
- The decision ensures that fuel adjustment costs for February are passed on to consumers across Pakistan.
- This adjustment applies to all discos, including K-Electric, which serves Karachi and surrounding areas.
Impact on consumers
The increase will be collected through the upcoming April electricity bills.
- Households and businesses should expect a marginal rise in monthly electricity payments.
- Nepra emphasized that monthly fuel adjustments are a standard procedure to reflect fluctuations in fuel costs.
- Consumers are advised to monitor their bills and plan accordingly for the slight increase.
