South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket across all formats of the game.
The right-hander confirmed his decision on April 2 through a message shared on social media, reflecting on his international career.
Van der Dussen said it had always been a matter of pride to represent South Africa, describing it as the greatest honour of his life. He said the journey demanded resilience and dedication, and that every moment of representing his country was worthwhile.
He added that although his international career has come to an end, he will continue to represent his domestic side, the Lions, and will move into coaching.
Van der Dussen represented South Africa in 18 Tests, 71 One Day Internationals and 57 Twenty20 Internationals. His final appearance came in a T20 international against Australia on August 16, 2025.
He made his T20 debut on October 9, 2018, and his One Day International debut on January 19, 2019, where he scored 93 runs. He was also part of South Africa’s campaign in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, where he scored three half-centuries.
His first ODI century came against Pakistan in 2021. He later scored two centuries in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, including 133 against New Zealand. He finished his ODI career with an average above 50, the second highest for South Africa after AB de Villiers.
A senior figure in the limited-overs side, van der Dussen also led South Africa in a T20 series against West Indies in May 2024 and during a tri-series in Zimbabwe in July 2025.
