According to the Inter-Servies Public Relations, the Field Marshal chief of army staff (COAS) and chief of defence staff held a detailed interaction with ulema from the Shia community in Rawalpindi.
The discussion centered on national security challenges and the role of religious scholars in promoting societal harmony.
During the meeting, the army chief stressed that ulema play a critical role in promoting unity, tolerance, and national cohesion. He highlighted that scholars are key in countering misinformation, sectarian narratives, and externally sponsored efforts aimed at destabilizing Pakistan.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reiterated that religious leadership must actively contribute to strengthening national harmony and combating extremism.
Strong message on terrorism, Afghanistan
Referring to Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, the army chief made it clear that Pakistan will not tolerate the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against its people.
He emphasized that terrorists operating against Pakistan will be eliminated wherever they are through precise, intelligence-based operations. He also urged the Afghan Taliban to ensure their territory is not used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Religious sentiments must not incite violence
Field Marshal Asim Munir underscored that religious sentiments should never be exploited to incite violence within the country.
He stated that Pakistan will not tolerate violence triggered by incidents occurring in other countries, reinforcing the need for internal stability and restraint.
Highlighting Pakistan’s broader strategy, the army chief pointed to ongoing efforts and proactive diplomacy aimed at reducing regional tensions. He reiterated that unity at home remains essential to effectively navigate external and internal challenges.
Scholars express support for peace, stability
The participating scholars expressed a strong desire for peace and stability in the country. They unequivocally condemned violence carried out in the name of religion and pledged full support to law enforcement agencies in their efforts to maintain law and order.
The Ulema reaffirmed their commitment to promoting harmony and standing against extremism.
