Hema Malini has expressed disappointment after Dharmendra was not initially included in the Oscars’ tribute segment. The omission has sparked debate among fans and industry observers.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Hema Malini said that while Dharmendra never sought such recognition, the omission was still disheartening.
She emphasized that for the veteran actor, the love of his fans always mattered more than awards or global acknowledgment.
Hema Malini noted that Dharmendra valued public admiration above all else.
She added that the continued love and remembrance from fans remain the greatest tribute to his legacy.
Despite Dharmendra’s humble outlook, Hema Malini said his contribution to cinema deserved recognition on global platforms like the Oscars.
She stressed that his name should have been included in the tribute list from the beginning.
Belated inclusion raises questions
According to reports, Dharmendra’s name was later added to the Oscars website.
However, many have described this move as a delayed acknowledgment rather than a timely tribute.
Alongside Dharmendra, other Indian personalities were also included later:
-
Manoj Kumar
-
Saroja Devi
-
Kota Srinivas Rao
Dharmendra had a career spanning more than six decades and appeared in nearly 300 films.
He passed away in November 2025 at the age of 89, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Indian cinema.
