The process of granting honorariums to mosque imams in Punjab continued after approval from law-enforcement agencies, while the Home Department submitted the latest statistics to the chief minister.
According to a statistical report issued by the home department, a total of 52,913 imams received the honorarium in the first phase. A list of 74,235 mosques across Punjab was compiled, while 76,144 applications from mosque imams were received.
The home epartment forwarded all applications to the Counter-Terrorism Department and the Special Branch for verification. After scrutiny at the district level, 70,653 applications received approval, while further examination in several cases remained under way.
Following verification of the data of more than 58,000 mosque imams through Nadra, bank accounts were opened at the Bank of Punjab.
So far, Rs1.3228 billion has been released under the honorarium scheme.
