Flight operations across the Middle East remain under severe strain as airspace closures continue to disrupt regional travel.
Qatar Airways has extended the suspension of its flight operations until 9am on March 4, urging passengers to stay updated before heading to airports.
According to the airline, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has decided to keep Qatari airspace closed for the time being.
Qatar Airways confirmed that it will resume operations only after an official announcement regarding the safe reopening of the country’s airspace.
The airline’s flight operations have been temporarily suspended since February 28 due to the closure.
Further updates for passengers will be issued on March 4 at 9am local time.
Advisory issued to passengers
Qatar Airways has advised all passengers to check its official website or mobile application for the latest flight information before travelling to the airport.
The airline emphasised that schedules remain subject to change depending on the evolving security situation in the region.
The ongoing Middle East crisis has inflicted heavy financial losses on airlines operating in the region.
Aviation sources estimate that airlines have so far lost Rs215 billion in revenue due to the cancellation of 9,500 flights from seven airports across the Middle East within four days.
The financial impact continues to grow as uncertainty persists.
Pakistan also hit by cancellations
Flight disruptions have significantly affected Pakistan as well.
More than 400 flights from Pakistan have been cancelled in four days, aviation sources claim.
Cancellations from Pakistan’s international airports alone have reportedly caused airlines to lose around Rs10 billion in revenue during the same period.
Beyond ticket cancellations, airlines are also facing mounting expenses from passenger refunds and additional accommodation arrangements.
Industry insiders warn that if the Middle East situation worsens and air operations are not restored soon, airline businesses could come to a near standstill.
