An important security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the situation in the Middle East and expressed concern over the actions of the United States and Israel, as well as the attack on Iran and the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others.
The meeting, presided over by the prime minister, examined the security situation in Afghanistan, Iran and other countries of the region. Sources said senior military leadership and heads of intelligence agencies attended the session. Detailed consultations took place regarding Pakistan’s policy in view of the prevailing regional circumstances, and guidelines were drawn up concerning the country’s future stance.
Participants received a high-level briefing from security institutions. Important decisions were taken on national security matters, and a resolve was reiterated to formulate a comprehensive national policy. It was also decided to tighten security in major cities and at sensitive installations.
The situation along the western border came under review. Matters relating to the Afghanistan border were discussed. The meeting commended the operations of Pakistan’s armed forces and reaffirmed the resolve to continue action against Fitna al-Khawarij.
Participants were also briefed on protest demonstrations in the country, including anti-United States protests. Institutions were directed to remain on high alert, while the Prime Minister ordered preparedness to deal with any emergency situation.
