The Punjab School Education Department has placed schools across the province on high alert, issuing fresh directives to tighten security following the recent terrorist attack in Bhakkar.
In a letter sent to education authorities in all districts, the department ordered immediate implementation of enhanced security measures in both government and private schools.
According to the official instructions, all schools must construct eight-foot-high boundary walls and install barbed wire to strengthen perimeter security.
The installation of CCTV cameras, metal detectors and panic buttons has also been made mandatory. These measures aim to improve surveillance and ensure rapid response in case of emergencies.
Single entry point, strict monitoring
The department has directed that all schools operate through a single central gate to control access more effectively.
Strict monitoring of visitors’ entry and exit has been ordered. Schools have also been instructed to ensure immediate reporting of any suspicious activity to relevant authorities.
The letter specifically calls for special surveillance of large and well-known private and government schools across Punjab. Security staff have been directed to remain alert during academic hours to prevent any untoward incidents.
Emergency preparedness
In addition to physical security enhancements, schools have been instructed to conduct emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and mock exercises.
Authorities have also been told to ensure phased evacuation plans for students and secure drinking water reservoirs as part of comprehensive safety planning.
The Punjab School Education Department has made it clear that strict action will be taken against institutions that fail to implement the security instructions.
