Pakistani cricketer Imad Wasim has taken a legal route after his ex-wife publicly accused him of serious misconduct. The dispute, which erupted on Instagram, has now escalated into a courtroom battle.
The controversy began when Sannia Ashfaq shared a series of posts on Instagram over several days, levelling serious allegations against the all-rounder.
She accused the former Pakistan cricket team captain of abandoning her during pregnancy and cheating during their marriage.
In one strongly worded post, she wrote: “In December 2023, he got my child aborted in Lahore. He’s a murderer, and I have a video that proves it. He cheated on me.”
Call for boycott and public appeal
Sannia also tagged Islamabad United in her posts and called for a boycott, stating that no “cheater or murderer should get an escape.”
The matter intensified when she shared screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations. The chats appeared to show heated exchanges, including messages where she asked him to be present at the birth of their child.
According to the screenshots, the 37-year-old cricketer warned her not to contact him or his family and allegedly threatened legal action.
In a video message posted on Instagram, Sannia urged Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and Islamabad United to investigate the matter and take action.
Her public appeal fueled further debate online, triggering widespread reactions across social media platforms.
Imad denies allegations, moves court
Imad Wasim has described the accusations as false and damaging. Reports indicate that he has now approached the court to challenge what he calls baseless claims.
The legal filing marks a significant escalation in what had initially been a social media dispute.
Earlier, while announcing his marriage to social media influencer Nyla Raja, Imad wrote: “I went through one of the hardest chapters of my life after a marriage that did not work… I love them beyond words.”
He also stated that he decided to remarry in search of peace and stability after a difficult period.
However, Sannia reacted strongly to the announcement, alleging that he cheated on her and referring to his new wife as a “homewrecker.” The remarks sparked a wave of criticism and online backlash against the newlywed couple.
