Fresh leaks surrounding Samsung’s upcoming foldables suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could offer a rare combination: a lighter feel in hand and improved battery life. The information has surfaced as Samsung continues to make headlines at CES 2026.
Samsung has already made several announcements at this year’s CES, which runs until January 9.
While the company has not officially teased its next foldables yet, new leaks about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 are gaining traction, hinting at notable design and battery upgrades.
Rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 have been circulating for months.
Earlier leaks suggested the device could feature a 5,000 mAh battery, a sizeable jump from the 4,400 mAh battery found in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. If true, this would mark a significant improvement in endurance for Samsung’s book-style foldable.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be lighter
According to a report from Maeil Business Newspaper, cited by Android Authority, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may be more comfortable to hold due to a reduced overall weight.
The leak claims the Fold 8 will weigh 200 grams, making it 15 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While the difference may seem small, such weight reduction is considered a major engineering achievement for foldable devices.
If the leaked weight is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could become the lightest foldable phone available in the US, unless competitors manage to go below the 200-gram mark.
For context, the iPhone 17 Pro reportedly weighs 206 grams, while the Galaxy S25+ comes in at 190 grams.
Weight reduction
The comparison becomes more striking when battery sizes are taken into account.
The Galaxy S25+ is only 10 grams lighter than the rumored Fold 8 weight, despite being a traditional smartphone with a 4,900 mAh battery, slightly smaller than the Fold 8’s expected 5,000 mAh cell.
The leak also includes details about Samsung’s clamshell foldable.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is said to weigh 150 grams, which would make it 38 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, the report does not clarify whether this weight reduction will affect the Flip 8’s battery life.
Samsung has not confirmed any of these specifications.
As with previous leaks, the information should be treated with caution until official details emerge closer to launch.
