Petroleum division briefs PM
An important meeting on the affairs of the Petroleum Division was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Officials presented a detailed roadmap for the petroleum and gas sector, covering exploration, production, and infrastructure development.
The meeting was informed that domestic consumers are receiving gas with better pressure this winter compared to last year. Officials attributed the improvement to better supply management and ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
Officials said work on RLNG connections is progressing, with a target of 350,000 connections to be completed by June 2026. The meeting was also informed that pipelines for the Shiva Gas Field and Batani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work is underway on the pipeline from the Kot Palak Gas Field.
PM welcomes discovery
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of large oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa block. He also praised the performance of the relevant institutions, including OGDCL, for their efforts in boosting domestic energy resources.
Addressing the participants, the Prime Minister said that the discovery of new oil and gas reserves should remain a national priority. He stressed that increasing domestic production would help save valuable foreign exchange currently spent on importing petroleum products.
PM Shehbaz directed that the oil and gas supply chain be digitised on a priority basis, from import to consumer consumption. He said digitisation of oil and gas transportation would help prevent smuggling and increase benefits for the national treasury.
