Just weeks after the OnePlus 15 launched in late October, early leaks about its successor are already making waves.
The latest rumor suggests the OnePlus 16 could push smartphone displays to an entirely new level.
The OnePlus 16 has surfaced in leaks for the second time in recent days. Earlier reports claimed the upcoming flagship could feature a 200MP camera sensor, signaling a major upgrade in photography.
Now, new information points toward an equally ambitious improvement in display technology.
Display with unprecedented refresh rate
According to the latest leak, OnePlus has allegedly started testing a display with a refresh rate of at least 200Hz for the OnePlus 16. While the exact figure has not been confirmed, 240Hz is seen as a likely possibility.
The source, however, does not provide specific technical details, leaving room for speculation.
Even if the refresh rate tops out at 200Hz, it would still be the highest refresh rate ever seen on a smartphone. This would place OnePlus ahead of competitors that currently max out at lower refresh rates.
Real-world use
A key question remains how practical such a high refresh rate would be. Not all mobile games are optimized to take full advantage of ultra-high refresh rates.
There is also uncertainty over whether users will be able to manually set apps to run at the maximum refresh rate, which could determine how useful the feature is beyond gaming.
Battery impact
High refresh rate displays typically raise concerns about battery drain. However, the leak notes that new silicon-carbon (Si/C) batteries with increased capacity could offset this issue.
If true, users may enjoy smoother visuals without a significant hit to battery life.
