Prince William has been warned that the rift with Prince Harry could reach a decisive breaking point in 2026. Royal watchers say time is no longer healing the divide—and may instead be hardening it.
Royal commentators believe the coming year could determine whether Prince William and Prince Harry ever truly reconcile. According to observers, the absence of contact has shifted from temporary distance to a potentially permanent estrangement.
They warn that opportunities for quiet repair have passed without action, deepening the sense of finality around the brothers’ relationship.
Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, have largely avoided one another since King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023. During the ceremony, any interaction between the brothers was reportedly minimal and strictly formal.
Since then, there have been no public signs of reconciliation or credible reports of private communication.
Funeral encounter marked by distance
The last known occasion when both brothers were in the same place was in August 2024, at the funeral of their maternal uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in Norfolk.
Despite the personal nature of the event, reports indicate that William and Harry did not speak, sit together, or acknowledge one another.
Rift years in the making
The strain between the brothers dates back several years. It intensified after Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and grew deeper following his televised interviews and the publication of his memoir, Spare.
Observers say these developments significantly accelerated the breakdown in trust between the two.
Royal watchers now suggest that time is no longer acting as a healing force. Instead, prolonged silence has allowed resentment and distance to settle, making reconciliation increasingly difficult.
With no visible effort to reset the relationship, the divide appears to be widening rather than closing.
