A child arriving from New Zealand was surprised after seeing a restaurant bill in Chennai, formerly Madras, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and the video later spread on social media.
The footage shows the child standing with his mother outside the restaurant and carefully examining a paper bill dated December 7, 2025.
On realising the total amount, the child appeared visibly astonished. The bill listed baby corn manchurian, bonda, dahi papri, special falooda, idli, paneer masala dosa and vegetable noodles.
At the scene, the child counted each dish one by one and expressed surprise that seven items together cost only about 30 New Zealand dollars, equivalent to 1,502 Indian rupees.
In the video, the child said that in New Zealand the same amount usually covered only two or three items. Viewers on Instagram offered mixed reactions after the video was shared.
One user remarked that the reaction would be even more interesting if the child were to see Indian salary slips. Some viewers stated that 1,500 rupees for seven items still seemed expensive.
Another user termed comparisons with food prices in New Zealand as exaggerated. One comment, made in jest, suggested that the child might no longer wish to return to New Zealand.
