Punjab is set to experience mixed weather conditions over the coming days, with rain and snowfall forecast for upper districts and dense fog and smog continuing across the plains, authorities said on Saturday.
The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain and snowfall in the hilly areas of Punjab from December 14 to 15, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
A PDMA spokesperson said the weather system is likely to affect upper districts, bringing cold conditions and intermittent precipitation.
Fog and smog to persist
While upper regions may see rain and snow, fog and smog are expected to dominate the plain districts of Punjab.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib are likely to remain affected by fog and smog during this period.
Smog conditions are also expected to persist in several central Punjab districts.
The spokesperson named Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Layyah, Kot Addu, and Multan as areas that will continue to experience reduced visibility and poor air quality.
Southern Punjab districts will not see much relief either, officials warned. According to the PDMA DG, fog and smog conditions will persist in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Khanpur, affecting daily life and travel.
Moderate fog, smog
PDMA Director General Irfan Kathia said that moderate conditions of fog and smog are expected to continue across Punjab from December 12 to 16.
He advised citizens to remain cautious, particularly while traveling during early morning and late-night hours, as visibility may remain low in many areas.
