In China, a tourist fell 130 feet off a cliff while taking a selfie on a mountain track but miraculously survived.
The incident occurred near Huaying Mountain when the tourist leaned forward to take a photo, causing a part of the rock beneath his feet to break.
According to reports, nearby trekkers ran to the edge of the cliff to check on the situation. Fortunately, the tourist only suffered minor injuries after falling into the trees.
Later, the tourist posted on social media, saying he considered himself lucky and believed he had the “protection of the mountain gods.” He mentioned that he fell about 40 meters and then tumbled another 15 meters further down.
The video quickly went viral on social media, reigniting discussions about the dangerous trend of taking selfies. Past incidents show that most selfie-related accidents involve people falling from heights or drowning.
Similar incidents have occurred previously. In 2019, a woman in India slipped while taking a selfie at a hill station but was saved by bushes. In contrast, in 2018, a couple at Yosemite National Park in the US fell approximately 800 feet while taking a selfie and died.
Following the viral video, authorities again urged tourists to stay away from unprotected edges, follow warning signs, and prioritize safety over photos.
