Actor and filmmaker Divya Khosla has sparked a major debate after claiming that nearly 90% of Bollywood box office numbers are not real, alleging widespread manipulation through corporate bookings.
The revelation came during her recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit, where she answered questions about her career and the film industry.
Responding to a fan’s comment about the Jigra controversy, Khosla said she never aimed to “be the boss” but felt compelled to speak up about the industry’s unethical practices.
She said she has personally witnessed malpractices, adding:
“You do corporate bookings, you buy awards… because you have power and money. So what about people who have none of these?”
The actor stressed that such manipulations undermine genuine talent and hard work across the industry.
“90% of films inflate box office numbers”
Khosla claimed that corporate bookings—bulk ticket purchases made to artificially boost box office figures—are rampant in Bollywood today.
She said, “Corporate bookings are happening today in Bollywood with 90% of films. Whatever numbers are being declared shock me because the actual figures are nowhere close, and I think everyone in the industry and the audience knows this.”
Khosla described the situation as “very sad,” suggesting that inflated numbers distort reality and undermine public trust.
Khosla emphasized the need for the Bollywood fraternity to unite and address these systemic issues. However, she expressed doubt that such unity is possible:
“The industry is too split for that to happen.”
Her comments reflect a broader frustration among artists who feel overshadowed by money-driven practices.
