Federal Minister for Climate Change Musaddik Malik said on Friday that recent floods had caused damage exceeding 9.5 per cent of the national GDP and termed the rising temperatures and melting glaciers as a result of pollution.
Addressing the Dolphin Conservation Conference, organised by WWF in Islamabad, Malik emphasised the protection of the Indus River dolphin and affirmed support for WWF, pledging all possible cooperation. Regarding climate change, he said that over the past four major floods, more than 4,700 lives had been lost. 17,000 individuals had been rendered disabled.
Malik also expressed concern over the severe pollution of the Ravi River.
