A pet dog named Ozzy, belonging to a family from the US state of Oklahoma, has set a Guinness World Record for the longest tongue on a living dog, measuring 7.83 inches.
Previously, the record was held by Rocky, a dog from Bloomington, Illinois, whose tongue measured 5.46 inches. Rocky set the record in 2023.
Speaking to Guinness World Records, Ozzy’s owner, Angela Pick, said that ever since her dog was born, his tongue has always hung out. Veterinarians have examined him twice and confirmed that he has no medical issues - his tongue is simply unusually long.
According to Guinness World Records, measurements were taken under strict guidelines to ensure accuracy, with Ozzy remaining calm throughout the process. The organization noted that such records highlight the unique diversity found among domestic animals.
Ozzy’s family says his extraordinary tongue has made him something of a local celebrity. Neighbors often stop during walks to take photos, and Angela jokes that Ozzy’s giant tongue has become “his own built-in air conditioner” during Oklahoma’s warm summers.
