Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said Pakistan’s victory in the war against India came through the help of Allah.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, the remarks came at a ceremony at the President House, where King Abdullah II of Jordan received the country’s highest civil award, followed by a luncheon. Guests praised the abilities of Field Marshal Munir. He said that Allah granted Pakistan success in the conflict.
During the presentation of the Nishan-e-Pakistan to the distinguished guest, Field Marshal Asim Munir remained the centre of attention. Participants expressed strong appreciation for the army chief’s role in responding to Indian aggression with what they described as a historic victory.
Citing a Quranic verse, the Field Marshal said Pakistan achieved a historic triumph through Allah’s support. He said Muslim soldiers in earlier battles threw sand at the enemy and still prevailed, and that Pakistan carried the same spirit in its confrontation with India, which, he said, resulted in divine assistance.
President Asif Ali Zardari said on the occasion that all present formed one family. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the ceremony, along with the Senate chairman, federal ministers, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the United States ambassador, the British High Commissioner and other notable figures.
