The government has decided to fulfill the last condition set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the release of the next $1.2 billion tranche, assuring that the Governance and Corruption Diagnosis Report will be published before November 15.
According to officials, this move will remove the final obstacle to the IMF Executive Board’s approval of the funding, which includes $1 billion from the IMF and $200 million in climate financing.
All conditions met before IMF board huddle
Sources in the Ministry of Finance confirmed that all other prior conditions have already been met before the IMF Executive Board meeting, expected to take place in December 2025.
The IMF had emphasized the early release of the Governance and Corruption Diagnosis Report as a prerequisite for disbursing the funds. Officials said that technical formalities for its publication are now being finalized.
Report highlights institutional weaknesses
The report identifies administrative shortcomings, weak law enforcement, and corruption concerns within government institutions. It will also include reform recommendations to strengthen governance and transparency.
Finance Ministry officials added that an implementation framework will be shared with the IMF following the report’s release. The report was initially due in July, later rescheduled to August 2025, after Pakistan sought additional time during the last economic review discussions.
Once the report is published, the IMF Executive Board will convene to approve the $1.2 billion installment. The release of funds will provide critical support to Pakistan’s economic stabilization program and climate resilience initiatives.
