Sources divulged on Thursday that the provincial administration spent Rs1.80 billion on the preparation of 112 bulletproof vehicles. The budget for the current fiscal year also includes funds for the purchase of additional bulletproof vehicles. If the new Chief Minister approves, more such vehicles may be acquired.
The province has built 15 vehicles at a cost of Rs28 million each, while 11 armoured vehicles have been prepared at Rs119 million each. In addition, 48 single-cabin vehicles have been produced at a cost of Rs1.65 million per vehicle.
Most of the vehicles have been completed, while work on the remaining units continues. The fleet will be distributed among various districts, including Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Upper South Waziristan, Bajaur and Orakzai.
The sources privy to the development said that the provincial government continues to meet other police requirements through its own resources after completing the bulletproofing project.
