Pakistan’s first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, is set to launch from China on October 19 to mark a significant step in the country’s space technology programme.
According to Suparco, the satellite will support agriculture, urban development and environmental monitoring. HS-1 is expected to increase crop yields by 15 to 20 per cent. It will also assist in forecasting floods, landslides and other natural disasters.
The hyperspectral mission has been described as a key milestone in the National Space Policy and Vision 2047. Suparco stated that Pakistan’s space programme is entering a new phase focused on modern applications.
