With the arrival of the wedding season, bridal shopping has become increasingly difficult for many, as the prices of wedding dresses—particularly lehengas—continue to rise sharply.
According to details surfaced on Tuesday, for many women, owning a wedding dress has now become a distant dream. Over the past year alone, the cost of lehengas has risen by more than 50 per cent, leaving many without the purchasing power to afford them. Shop owners confirmed that while bridal collections remain in demand, prices have reached levels that worry even the most prepared customers.
“I came here to buy a lehenga. There are various styles available—party wear and bridal dresses. They are lovely and beautiful,” said one customer. “But after hearing the prices, I became a little concerned. I have now decided to take one on rent.”
At many bridal shops, a wide range of wedding dresses is displayed, but customers are deterred by the high prices. Shopkeepers acknowledged the challenge but point to rising production costs.
“The material has become expensive,” said one vendor. “Another reason is the cost of the fabric. It becomes a problem for buyers when we tell them the average price is between Rs40,000 and Rs60,000.”
