Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday on the sidelines of the Gaza Peace Summit, reaffirming the enduring and historic relations between Pakistan and Qatar.
In their warm and friendly meeting, the two leaders discussed regional developments and the progress achieved at the Gaza summit, which resulted in a landmark peace agreement. Both sides expressed their shared commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Qatar cooperation across various fields, including trade, investment, and energy.
Pakistan appreciates Qatar’s role
Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the emir’s leadership, diplomacy, and cooperation with other nations that contributed to the successful conclusion of the Gaza peace deal. He lauded Qatar’s continued efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Gaza crisis, which he said had “rekindled the hopes of millions of Palestinians to resume and rebuild their lives.”
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding and principled stance on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing support for the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan reaffirms humanitarian support for Palestinians
Highlighting Pakistan’s humanitarian commitment, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated his country’s continued support for relief assistance to the Palestinian people, who have endured immense suffering amid years of conflict.
He emphasized that Pakistan stands in solidarity with Palestine and will continue to back international efforts aimed at achieving peace and rebuilding Gaza.
Emir of Qatar thanks Pakistan for solidarity
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz for Pakistan’s unwavering support and principled stance on the Palestinian cause.
He said the sustained focus of the international community on Gaza was essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. The Emir also appreciated Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic engagement and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to close cooperation with Islamabad on regional and global issues.
Strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation
Both leaders agreed to remain closely engaged on issues of mutual concern and to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, investment, and regional security.
The meeting was the fourth interaction between Prime Minister Shehbaz and the Emir of Qatar in the past month, including two visits to Doha in September and a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session.
