The National Highways and Motorway Police announced on Sunday that all motorways from Lahore have been reopened for traffic, bringing some relief to commuters after days of disruption caused by ongoing protests.
However, in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, several main roads remain closed for the third consecutive day due to a protest by a religious group, officials confirmed.
Only a few key routes leading to major hospitals in the federal capital have been reopened to ensure medical access.
Traffic diversions and closures
Authorities said that traffic on the Islamabad Expressway has been diverted to one side of Container Road at Faizabad, causing congestion and long queues of vehicles in surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi–Murree Road remains completely closed for all kinds of traffic, with commuters advised to use alternate routes.
Motorway Police confirmed that all motorways originating from Lahore, including M-2 (Lahore–Islamabad) and M-3 (Lahore–Abdul Hakeem), are now open and operational after temporary closures.
Internet services restored
After two days of suspension, mobile internet services were restored late Saturday night, easing communication problems for residents and media crews covering the protest.
