The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported a 0.56 per cent increase in weekly inflation.
According to details surfaced on Friday, the prices of 19 essential items rose over the past week, while twelve saw a decline. Rates of 20 items remained unchanged.
According to PBS, the year-on-year weekly inflation surpassed 4 per cent, reaching 4.07 per cent. The rise in prices follows a pattern observed after recent flooding, with key commodities such as tomatoes, garlic, onions, petrol and diesel recording price increases.
Among the items that became more expensive were tomatoes, garlic, onions, red chilli, mutton and beef. Ghee, curd, petrol, diesel, clothing and cigarettes also saw price rises. Tomatoes recorded the highest weekly increase of 46 per cent. Their average price rose by Rs88 per kilogram to reach Rs278 per kilogram.
Petrol prices increased by Rs4.57, while diesel rose by Rs3.97. Garlic became costlier by approximately Rs6 per kilogram, with the average price exceeding Rs466 per kilogram.
A 20-kilogram bag of flour rose in price by Rs2.21, reaching an average of Rs2,033. The same bag sold for between Rs1,810 and Rs2,400 across various cities.
In contrast, the price of live broiler chicken dropped by Rs28 per kilogram. Its average price fell to Rs321 per kilogram.
