Prince William has described 2024 as the hardest year of his life, citing the simultaneous cancer battles of both his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and his father, King Charles III.
Speaking to actor Eugene Levy in an upcoming episode of Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler, William shared how last year tested him personally and emotionally.
“I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had,” the prince said in a preview clip. “Life is said to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
The episode, scheduled to air on October 3, features William giving Levy a tour of Windsor Castle before the pair sit down for a pint at a traditional pub.
The royal’s candid remarks are a rare glimpse into his private reflections on a period marked by both personal strain and public duty.
Kate Middleton’s recovery
In January, Princess Kate revealed that her cancer had entered remission. Since then, she has gradually increased her public appearances, including a prominent role alongside William in welcoming U.S. President Donald Trump during his recent state visit to the U.K.
King Charles, too, resumed official engagements earlier this year after stepping back for several months to undergo treatment. Neither the monarch nor the princess has disclosed the type of cancer they were diagnosed with.
Their return to public duty has been seen as a significant reassurance for the royal family and the nation, following a difficult chapter for the monarchy.
