Huawei has launched a new artificial intelligence infrastructure designed to strengthen its computing capabilities and compete more effectively with US-based chipmaker Nvidia.
According to TechCrunch, during its Huawei Connect conference in Shenzhen on Thursday, the company introduced SuperPoD Interconnect, a technology that links up to 15,000 graphics cards—including Huawei’s Ascend AI chips—into a single network to enhance processing power.
This system appears to rival Nvidia’s NVLink, which connects AI chips for fast data transfer. Huawei’s new development aims to bridge the performance gap with Nvidia by allowing large-scale chip clustering, enabling higher compute capacity for tasks such as AI training and deployment.
The announcement followed China’s decision to ban domestic technology firms from purchasing Nvidia hardware, including the RTX Pro 600D servers that were tailored for the Chinese market.
