The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed by-elections in nine constituencies of the National and Punjab Assemblies due to the ongoing flood situation in Punjab.
According to the notification, five National Assembly constituencies and four Punjab Assembly constituencies are affected. The decision was made following a request from the Punjab Government.
The National Assembly constituencies where polling has been postponed include NA-66 Wazirabad, NA-96 Faisalabad-II, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore and NA-143 Sahiwal.
By-elections have also been deferred in the following Punjab Assembly constituencies: PP-73 Sargodha, PP-88 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad and PP-203 Sahiwal.
The electoral watchdog has confirmed that the polling was initially scheduled for September 18 and October 5. A new schedule for the by-elections in these constituencies will be issued at a later date.
