The Punjab School Education Department has decided to take disciplinary action against government schoolteachers found absent during official duty hours, amid reports that many have been engaged in teaching at private academies.
The department has issued a formal directive to school principals, instructing them to closely monitor the attendance and movement of teaching staff. Officials revealed that some teachers have established their own private coaching centres, operating them during school hours in breach of service rules.
The directive declared that teaching or running academies during working hours contravenes regulations. It also raised concerns that teachers involved in private academies often show preferential treatment towards their own academy students, to the detriment of those enrolled in government institutions.
Principals have been ordered to track teacher attendance rigorously, both within and outside school premises, and to submit complete personnel records. Failure to comply may result in action against both principals and district education officers, according to the circular.
Disciplinary proceedings will begin against teachers found affiliated with private academies during duty hours, the department confirmed.
