A local court on Sunday handed over Farhan Ghani - the brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani - to police on a one-day transit remand in a case involving allegations of torture on a government official.
Farhan Ghani - who also serves as Chairman of Chanesar Town - was arrested after a case was registered at the Firozabad police station on the complaint of government employee Hafiz Sohail Ahmed.
Case details
According to the FIR, Sohail Ahmed alleged that while supervising the laying of fiber optic cables on Shara-e-Faisal Service Road on August 22, he was attacked by 20 to 25 armed men arriving in three vehicles. He claimed that despite introducing himself, he was beaten and threatened with death.
The case includes sections related to terrorism, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation. Other named suspects include Qamaruddin, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar, and Rohan. Police said additional attackers will be identified during the investigation.
Surrender and remand
Following the registration of the case, Farhan Ghani and several associates appeared at the Firozabad police station and surrendered themselves. The court later approved a one-day transit remand, allowing police to proceed with further investigation.
Saeed Ghani’s response
Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, in a post on X, confirmed his brother’s arrest, stating that Farhan Ghani and his colleagues would prove their innocence in court.
“My brother Farhan Ghani (Town Chairman) and some colleagues had a fight with a person named Sohail yesterday, and today he has registered a case, which is his legal right,” the minister wrote. “All those named in the case have presented themselves before police and will face the law.”
