A Karachi sessions court has dismissed the defamation case filed by Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani against prominent anchorperson Kiran Naz citing lack of evidence.
The South District and Sessions Court ruled that the allegations of false reporting made against the journalist could not be substantiated.
The court noted that the petitioner failed to provide any concrete evidence to prove that the content aired was deliberately false or malicious.
“This is not just my victory—it’s a victory for every journalist who believes in truth and responsible journalism,” Kiran Naz said following the court’s decision.
She added that the legal battle was mentally taxing, but she remained confident that justice would prevail.
Case background
The defamation suit stemmed from a news report which Saeed Ghani claimed was fabricated and intended to damage his reputation. The case also named three other journalists — Sanjay Sadhwani, Farhan Malik, and Naveed Siddiqui — all of whom had already been acquitted in earlier hearings.
Saeed Ghani alleged that the journalists aired false news without verifying facts.
However, the court observed that the minister did not present any substantial evidence to back his claims.
