Senior actress Ghazala Javed has strongly criticised the mother of the late television actress Humaira Asghar, questioning her absence and perceived neglect in her daughter’s life, particularly in her final years.
Speaking in a recent televised interview, Ms Javed expressed deep concern over the statements made by Humaira’s mother, especially her comments critical of the people of Karachi. “Before blaming the people of Karachi, look within. What kind of mother are you?” she asked, visibly emotional.
Humaira Asghar, known for her roles in several television dramas, passed away over a year ago. The circumstances of her life and death have come under renewed scrutiny following her mother’s public remarks, which Ghazala Javed says deflect from more pressing personal responsibilities.
“She [Humaira's mother] didn’t even know that her daughter had passed away two Eids ago,” Ms Javed claimed, adding, “Instead of criticising a city, reflect on your role as a mother.”

Humaira Asghar had reportedly been living alone for nearly seven years before her death. Ghazala Javed praised the late actress for her dignity, saying, “She never indulged in drugs, she had no scandalous relationships, and she lived with grace. If she were my daughter, I would have been proud of her.”
Ms Javed, herself a mother of daughters, said she found it difficult to comprehend a parent’s disconnect from their child’s life. “If my married daughter falls ill, I can’t sleep at night. That’s what a mother feels,” she said.

She also expressed sorrow over the solitude in which Humaira reportedly lived. “She didn’t have a house or a car, but she had self-respect and resilience. This world sees the external, but I saw her as a brave, dignified woman.”
The actress concluded her remarks by lamenting what she termed as “the greatest misfortune”: children who lack the support of their own mothers. “For a courageous girl like Humaira, not having her mother by her side was her biggest deprivation,” she said.
