The United States Mission in Pakistan has announced the appointment of Stetson Sanders as the new U.S. Consul General in Lahore. He becomes the 35th official to assume this role.
This marks Sanders’ third diplomatic assignment related to Pakistan. He previously served in the Management Section of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad from 2019 to 2021 and also handled strategic management matters for Pakistan and Central Asia while stationed in Washington.
His diplomatic career includes key roles such as Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement in Juba, South Sudan, and Senior Civilian Representative at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghazni, Afghanistan. He has also held assignments in Tajikistan, India, and Spain.
Before joining the U.S. State Department, Sanders worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Russia and served as Executive Director of the International Intellectual Property Institute in Washington, DC. A California native, he holds degrees from Bradley University and Johns Hopkins University, and is fluent in several languages including Russian, Italian, Spanish, Tajiki, and Dari.
