The Supreme Court has issued a ruling stressing the need for immediate arrest following the dismissal of pre-arrest bail.
The verdict states that merely filing an appeal in the Supreme Court does not automatically halt arrest, and any delay undermines public confidence in the justice system.
The four-page decision, authored by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, was delivered in response to an appeal filed after the Lahore High Court rejected the bail pleas of Zahid Khan and others.
The court clarified that interim protection from arrest is not automatic and must be explicitly granted by the court. Despite the rejection of bail, the police failed to take any action for six months, which the court termed a serious lapse.
The judgment underscores that immediate execution of court orders is essential to uphold justice. It further stated that police cannot justify delays in arrest as a matter of administrative convenience.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel withdrew the appeal, leading the court to dispose of the case.
