The Punjab government has proposed the abolition of tax on income from livestock, a decision that is expected to benefit thousands of livestock-dependent households across the province.
The proposal is part of the Punjab Agricultural Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was formally presented in the Punjab Assembly. Under the bill, income generated from livestock farming will be completely excluded from the ambit of agricultural taxation.
According to official sources, the bill seeks to amend the existing Agricultural Income Tax Act of 1997. Livestock farming remains a critical source of income for many small and medium-scale farmers in Punjab, and the proposed tax relief is expected to ease financial burdens, especially amid rising inflation and input costs.
