Five senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), currently imprisoned in multiple cases, have called for immediate dialogue with the government to resolve the country's deepening political crisis.
In an open letter from jail, PTI leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema urged all stakeholders to engage in negotiations, emphasizing that "dialogue is the only way out of the worst crisis."
The letter stresses the need for political-level discussions and asserts that arrested leaders should be included in any dialogue process. The PTI leaders maintained that the responsibility to initiate talks lies with the government, but insisted that any such move must be taken in consultation with the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, the PTI has announced a high-level consultative meeting of the central leadership, scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday). The session will be chaired by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, with key party figures expected to attend, including Barrister Salman Akram Raja, Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Junaid Akbar, Zartaj Gul, Aamir Dogar, and Senator Ali Zafar.
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, provincial ministers, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, and senators have also been invited.
The meeting’s agenda includes:
-
Response to the Election Commission's decision on reserved seats
-
Strategies for the release of PTI's founding chairman
-
Surging petroleum prices
-
Provincial governance issues
-
Options for dialogue with the government
-
A possible protest movement
Sources within the party indicate that the leadership will also assess the political environment and determine the future course of action based on legal and public mobilization strategies.
