Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) and the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) have issued strong objections against the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, starring Indian actor Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
The film, currently not scheduled for release in India, has become the center of a cultural controversy, with both organizations threatening to boycott Dosanjh and the film's producers. They have also vowed to block any future attempts to release the film in India.
Gunbir Singh Sidhu, the producer of Sardaar Ji 3, clarified that the film was shot well before the recent surge in India-Pakistan tensions and is only set for an overseas release this Friday. Despite this, the backlash has continued to intensify.
The AICWA released a statement accusing Dosanjh of "working with a terrorist," while the FWICE labelled the cross-border collaboration as a "betrayal of the nation" and an act that "promotes anti-India narratives."
The sharp reaction from the film bodies reflects ongoing sensitivities in the Indian film industry regarding collaborations with Pakistani artists, especially amid strained diplomatic ties between the two countries.
As the release approaches, it remains to be seen whether the controversy will impact the film’s international reception or prompt further action from Indian authorities or film associations.
