The Met Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several parts of the country over the coming days, while extreme heat is expected to persist in southern regions.
In its latest weather advisory, the department said that Islamabad and surrounding areas are likely to experience partly cloudy conditions with chances of rain and gusty winds at isolated spots.
Rain expected in KP, Punjab
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Haripur. Additionally, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Charsadda may witness rain accompanied by strong winds.
In Punjab, while most districts will remain hot and dry, showers are expected in Lahore, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Hafizabad. Southern and central Punjab are also forecast to receive rain and dusty winds, which may help ease the heat intensity.
Hot, humid conditions in Sindh, Balochistan
Meanwhile, Sindh will continue to face extremely hot and humid conditions, with strong winds likely to blow across several districts. In Karachi, the temperature soared to a scorching 49°C on Saturday, while the humidity level reached 47%.
The Met Office predicts a slight drop in temperature by a degree from Sunday and has forecast light to moderate rain with thunder in suburban areas of Karachi on Monday, June 16. The city itself is expected to remain partly cloudy and humid.
Balochistan will also remain extremely hot and dry, but night-time showers may occur in Musakhel, Barkhan, Loralai, and Zhob, offering some respite.
Lahore heat persists
In Lahore, the temperature dipped slightly, but the intensity of heat remains high, with Saturday's maximum temperature hovering around 43°C. Weather experts predict rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the city until June 16, which may bring relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, and seek shelter during windy and rainy conditions.
"Rain will help reduce the ongoing heat and break the intensity of the heatwave," said a spokesperson for the Met Department.
