The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms and rain across most districts of Punjab starting this evening and continuing until June 16.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, strong winds, dusty gusts, and intermittent showers are expected in multiple regions, including Lahore, Narowal, Sargodha, Jhang, Mianwali, Sialkot, and Faisalabad.
The alert was issued following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, directing district administrations to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures in light of the forecast. DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said all relevant departments have been instructed to stay vigilant and ensure timely responses to any emergencies caused by inclement weather.
“This spell of rain is expected to bring relief from the prevailing heatwave and reduce overall temperature levels in the province,” DG Kathia noted.
He urged citizens to adopt safety precautions during the forecast period, especially during thunderstorms. “In case of severe winds and lightning, people must avoid open areas and seek shelter in safe spaces,” he advised.
The PDMA also cautioned against venturing outdoors during severe weather conditions, citing the risk of lightning and falling debris. “The public should avoid staying under open skies during thunderstorms and must take weather warnings seriously,” the DG added.
