The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered the immediate release of 114 teachers who were detained in Punjab during a protest against the privatization of schools.
The court, led by Justice Shakeel Ahmed, declared the detention orders “null and void”.
The detention orders, which were challenged through a series of petitions, were issued by Deputy Commissioners in various districts of Punjab.
The teachers had their cases heard in the Lahore High Court.
Justice Shakeel Ahmed, presiding over the case, deemed the detention orders to be against the principles of justice and human rights.
The petitioners' stand in these cases was that the Deputy Commissioners had issued the detention orders without proper legal basis, raising concerns about due process and individual liberties.
