The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court has extended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for an additional six days in connection with case number 2831 registered at the New Town police station regarding the September 28 arson attack.
The court’s decision came as Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Shah presided over proceedings at Adiala Jail, where the prosecutor successfully argued for an extension of Khan’s physical remand.
It is noteworthy that Imran Khan was arrested by Rawalpindi Police the day after being granted bail by the Islamabad High Court in the Toshakhana II case last week.
He was taken into custody in relation to a case registered under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the New Town police station, involving accusations of arson, encroachment, stone pelting, and resisting law enforcement. The case also includes charges of damaging government property.
A police spokesperson stated that an investigation team led by the SSP Investigation is currently interrogating the PTI chairman, and he will be presented before the court again tomorrow for further remand proceedings.
This follows Imran Khan's initial appearance before the Anti-Terrorism Court at Adiala Jail, where a five-day physical remand was granted the day after his arrest.
Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court released Imran Khan on bail in the Toshakhana II case against a bond of Rs1 million and two sureties.
Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, who authored the one-page order, cautioned that Khan should not misuse his bail and must attend all hearings in the trial court unless granted an exemption.
Despite securing bail in the Toshakhana case, Imran Khan remains imprisoned, as he requires bail in 66 other cases to be released from custody.
